Job Description
Lithos is seeking a full-time Associate Archaeologist to support projects in the Western United States reporting into one of three main locations; Rocky Mountain Region, Pacific Northwest, and the West Coast. The Associate Archaeologist will support the management and growth of Lithos as a company by serving as an assistant project manager for medium to large size projects, and project manager for smaller projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in archaeological fieldwork and report writing, with a strong understanding of cultural resource management. This role involves supporting senior staff in conducting surveys, excavations, project logistics, and preparing technical reports. The Associate Archaeologist will work collaboratively with other team members to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct archaeological field surveys, excavations, and site assessments under the supervision of senior archaeologists.
Collect, analyze, and document archaeological data, artifacts, and ecofacts.
Assist in the preparation of detailed technical reports, site records, and other documentation.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including CEQA and Section 106 of the NHPA.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including historians, environmental scientists, and planners.
Maintain field equipment and ensure accurate record-keeping during fieldwork.
Participate in public outreach and educational initiatives as required.
Stay current with advancements in archaeological methods and technologies.
Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and client meetings, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by senior staff.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
Three years of experience in archaeological fieldwork and report writing, within the three operating regions of the company.
Knowledge of archaeological methods, techniques, and best practices.
Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other relevant software tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to travel and work in various field conditions as required by project locations.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
Ability to be permitted as a Field Director on BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits in one of our three operating regions.
Four+ years of experience in archaeological fieldwork and research, preferably in the three operating regions of the company.
