Hire Type: As Needed, Hourly with overtime compensation at one

and half times regular pay, pay dependent on experience.

Salary Range: $25-$35 per hour

Location: Remote, reporting to one of three operating regions:

Rocky Mountain Region; Pacific Northwest; West Coast

Job Description  

Lithos is seeking an as-needed Staff Archaeologist to support projects in the Western United States reporting into one of three main locations; Rocky Mountain Region, Pacific Northwest, and the West Coast. The successful candidate will assist in conducting field surveys, excavations, and laboratory analysis. This role involves working closely with senior archaeologists to ensure the successful completion of archaeological projects.

Responsibilities will include:  

  • Conduct archaeological field surveys, excavations, and site assessments under the guidance of senior staff. 

  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and documentation of archaeological data, artifacts, and ecofacts. 

  • Prepare detailed field notes, site records, and contribute to technical reports. 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including CEQA and Section 106 of the NHPA. 

  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other relevant software tools for data recording and analysis. 

  • Maintain and organize field equipment and supplies. 

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including historians, environmental scientists, and planners. 

  • Participate in public outreach and educational initiatives as required. 

  • Stay current with advancements in archaeological methods and technologies. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior archaeologists and project managers. 

 


Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field. 

  • One year of experience in archaeological fieldwork. 

  • Knowledge of archaeological methods, techniques, and best practices. 

  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other relevant software tools. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Willingness to travel and work in various field conditions as required by project locations, including out of state work. 

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks as required. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Two+ years of experience in archaeological fieldwork.
